My Nightstand

Sure, to the untrained eye, this may look like a plastic container containing a couple of coffee mugs and some miscelaneous eating utensils. However, this, when stacked upon two other containers and sandwiched between my bed and the back of the driver's seat, becomes the nighttime resting place for my phone, watch, and various objects I may have in my pockets before bed.

Fascinating how much creativity comes from necessity.

Webster Pass Road

I camped out up an old stagecoach road southwest of Denver this past weekend. It was beautiful.

Thank God for Duct Tape

A week ago, we had a really rainy weekend, and my passenger wiper popped off. Taped it back on with my handy flourescent green duct tape. You should always carry duct tape with you. It'll save your life.

Tagged!

I noticed on my drive into work the other day that some renegade climbers took it upon themselves to tag the Wells Fargo Building here in Denver.  Kids...

My Office

Lately I've been a little more active in my commitment to journaling and blogging. Today I tried a new layout for my office. Yes, it's a little cramped, but it gets the job done.

I've been reading "In The Throne Room of the Mountain Gods" lately. It's a fascinating book by Galen Rowell about the American K2 expedition in 1976. So far, a great book. It makes me miss taking the van places far and wide, something I'm going to have to do again sooner than later, although at this point, I don't know where I'd go or what I'd do. The sensation of feeling lost hasn't left my humble ego. I debate on which way to go from here...

The Rain

It's been raining so hard here over the past couple of days.  We, here in Denver, have been running the gamut of rain and sunshine and hail and funnel clouds and flooding. While nothing has been too severe, it has all been constant, which has been amazing.

I'm impressed by this weather. People say that it would make one crazy to live in a place where it does this all the time. I don't think it would get to me, though. To me, rain is like a purification from God, like all of the evil and sin you've committed is washed away, cleansed, and that, when the sun returns, you're re-born, innocent and care-free to this world.

I love the rain.

The Journal

I started writing in my old journal again this morning. I haven't touched it since January. Trippy!

This past weekend has been so wet and rainy. We're supposed to have more of the same today. I love it. It gives the van a feel like that of a cave, and I feel like an explorer, holed up until the storm blows over. The rain seems to drum gently on the roof, kind of like a mental and spiritual massage. I often say I could live in a place where it constantly rains, but I think it's because I take for granted how much I love the sunlight.

We just got a flyover from an F-18.  It must be the cloud cover, but it feels like that is the third flyover in as many days. Those fighters seem so much louder than jumbo passenger jets.

I need to get at least a pair of tires on the van.  The front-driver side has some pretty vicious tread wear on the inside.  I can already see white.  It's frustrating as I feel like I just replaced the tires. I feel like I'm asking for a blowout.

All in all, though, life in the van is good.  I can't remember a time where I've felt so oddly calm with myself.
